Dental practice and malpractice insurance in 28 states

We're licensed in 28 states, and malpractice law differs in each one. Choose your state to see its damage caps, filing deadlines and pre-suit rules, plus our license number there.

Choose your state

Each state page covers what that state's law means for a dental practice's coverage: how malpractice claims are capped and timed, what a patient must do before filing suit, how the dental board handles complaints, the workers' comp rules for your team, and the state's data-breach notice deadline.

What changes from state to state

  • Damage caps. Some states cap non-economic damages in health care cases, some cap total damages, and some courts have struck caps down.
  • Filing deadlines. The time a patient has to sue ranges from one year to several, and many states add an outer limit that applies even when an injury is found late.
  • Pre-suit steps. Notices of intent, affidavits or certificates of merit, expert reports and review panels all vary.
  • Compensation funds. A few states run patient compensation funds that sit above a provider's own policy.
  • Workers' comp. Employee thresholds differ, and Ohio employers buy comp only from the state fund.

These rules don't change what you need to carry so much as how a claim plays out, which affects the limits and tail choices worth considering. Compare malpractice laws by state
